School... such an important word. Up until now, I have only worried about one child in school. And he will be a senior beginning next week. It just doesn't seem possible that Fischer will be graduating in nine months. I am so proud of his educational accomplishments. He has always been a straight A student, earning honor roll and lots of good attention. High school proved to be a little more challenging (a.k.a. he actually had to study to get good grades), so he got the occasional B or even C at times, but overall he still has well above a 3.5 GPA. I am not bragging or boasting... this boy is just bright. This year, he is taking his first AP classes and he took on the honor of being in leadership in Marching Band. He will be working hard, and I hope enjoying every minute of it along the way. I pray his Senior year is full of lifetime memories he will look back on with pride and joy. College plans are currently in discussion :)
I also don't want to leave out that Morgan will be starting 4th grade in her hometown in Florida. We'll have to keep updated with her about her school progress on the phone and Skype :)
In addition to Fischer's and Morgan's education, we have three more joining the ranks this year!
Gracie will start Kindergarten the same day Fischer starts 12th grade. She is really excited to go to school. She is such a big girl, and although I know she will be shy and nervous, as she is in all new situations, I know she will do wonderfully!
Chloe will be in preschool this year somewhere, lol. We have so many options, and are still working out the details. I thought it was settled, but found out there is a big conflict with the time between getting Gracie from Kindergarten and Chloe from preschool. So that option won't work afterall... it should be figured out soon.
Micah is eligible to get special education preschool services through our school district and/or county. I filled out the referral forms today now that the district is open for the 2011/12 academic year. His assessments should be done in the next month or two. He will be able to receive at least speech therapy, but I am hoping also for occupational therapy in addition to just basic preschool learning opportunities. It will be a preschool class somewhere in the high desert, depending on his needs. We know nothing for sure at this point.
Then for the adults...
Barry graduated in May 2010 with a BA in Public Administration. He is considering returning for his Master's after we move in the Fall. I am hugely supportive of this great idea. I'd love to see him go as far as he dreams with his education.
I have been working on my Bachelor's Degree (again) since September 2008. I've been on a break since February this year during the process of Micah's adoption, and am getting ready to plug back in on August 24. Only 13 classes to go! Once I'm finished, I will have a BS in Criminal Justice, with an emphasis in CSI. I love my major!
So sweet little Annie will be the only one not in school. There will be a few hours each weekday where it's just me and her. I look forward to it, but I think it will feel strange to have an almost-empty house! I'm not complaining... that's probably when I'll get some homework done :)
Thinking of going from a house of one student to six feels like someone just turned my house upside down. Bring on all the homework! :)
